HISTORIA

El príncipe Namor es hijo de la Princesa Fen de Atlantis, miembro de la raza submarina de llamada Homo Mermanus, y del capitán de barco Leonard McKenzie. El encuentro entre ambos, se produjo poco después de la 1ª Guerra Mundial, el capitán McKenzie iba a bordo del rompehielos norteamericano “Oráculo”, que utilizaba cargas explosivas para romper los casquetes de hielo que dificultaban la navegación. Estas explosiones afectaron a Atlantis, y el emperador Thakkor mandó a la superficie a su hija aventurera, la princesa Fen, esta, decidió que no necesitaba escolta, y tras tomar una poción que le permitiría respirar aire, subió a la superficie. Allí encontró al Oráculo, y subió a bordo, donde se encontró con el capitán McKenzie y la tripulación, que se quedaron sorprendidos ya que era el primer encuentro entre los humanos y los atlantes. La princesa Fen se quedó a bordo del barco, y aprendió rápidamente la lengua de los habitantes de la superficie. Fen se enamoró del capitán McKenzie, y se casaron a bordo del barco. Como su hija tardaba semanas en regresar, el emperador Thakkor pensó que los habitantes de la superficie la habían hecho prisionera, y envió una patrulla a la superficie a rescatarla. Así, Fen volvió a Atlantis, y pocos meses más tarde dio a luz al hijo fruto su unión con McKenzie, a quien llamó Namor.

Namor creció en Atlantis manteniendo una actitud hostil hacia los habitantes de la superficie, empleando a menudo su fuerza contra ellos, especialmente contra los Norteamericanos. Tras estallar la Segunda Guerra Mundial, Namor se dio cuenta de que el verdadero peligro lo representaba Hitler, y unió sus fuerzas a los aliados, formando parte del grupo de superhéroes conocido como los Invasores, junto a, entre otros, el Capitán América y la primera Antorcha Humana. Con ellos luchó contra la amenaza nazi, lo que valió el reconocimiento del público, recibiendo el nombre del Hombre Submarino. Acabada la guerra, Namor combatió el crimen como miembro del grupo llamado la Escuadra de los Vencedores. Atlantis había conseguido escapar indemne a la guerra de la superficie, pero al poco de acabar esta, la ciudad se vio azotada por una serie de seísmos y violentos terremotos. El emperador Thakorr envió a su nieto Namor a averiguar la causa de estos temblores, Namor descubrió en una caverna del continente Antártico, a la causa de los temblores, allí encontró a un hombre llamado Paul Destine quien había encontrado el “Casco de Poder”, más tarde conocido como la Corona Serpiente, que le dotaba de poderes psiónicos. Destino intentó destruir Atlantis, y consiguió dejar en ruinas la mayor parte de la capital, provocando entre otras, la muerte de la primera esposa de Namor, y obligando a los supervivientes a convertirse en nómadas durante años. Al tiempo que destruía Atlantis, Destino provocó en Namor una amnesia casi total, por lo que vagó por el mundo de la superficie durante años, sin saber quien era.

Namor fue descubierto casualmente por un jovencísimo Antorcha Humana, entonces en el inicio de su carrera, que le reconoció gracias a las fotos de antaño. Johny Storm llevó a Namor al puerto, y lo arrojó al mar esperando que recuperase la memoria. Efectivamente, Namor recuperó todos sus recuerdos excepto lo que hacía referencia a su pelea con Destino, y su presencia en los Invasores. Namor viajó a Atlantis, pero la encontró destruida, y erróneamente atribuyó esta destrucción a pruebas nucleares llevadas a cabo por los habitantes de la superficie. Namor intentó vengarse de los habitantes de la superficie, lo que le llevó a un enfrentamiento con los Vengadores, primero junto a Hulk, y después en solitario. En ambas ocasiones fue derrotado. Tras huir de los Vengadores después del segundo combate, un Namor frustrado llegó a las heladas regiones del norte, donde arrancó el ídolo que adoraban unos esquimales, arrojándolo al mar. En el interior de este ídolo se encontraba el congelado cuerpo del Capitán América.

Namor pronto encontró a parte de su perdido pueblo, y supo de la muerte de su abuelo Thakorr, por lo que fue proclamado emperador. Al poco tiempo de su ascensión, Namor dirigió a Atlantis a una guerra contra la superficie, invadiendo la ciudad de Nueva York, pero siendo rechazado por los 4 Fantásticos. Tras varios años de contacto con los habitantes de la superficie – entre los que se incluye un breve romance con Susan Storm, y su incorporación temporal al supergrupo conocido como los Defensores – Namor comprendió que la destrucción de Atlantis había sido provocada por Destino, y que la humanidad no tenía nada que ver, por lo que su actitud hacia la superficie, si bien no fue del todo amistosa, si abandonó la idea de conquistarla por la fuerza.

Namor era un monarca joven e inexperto, que dejaba las tareas en manos de sus visires, sus constantes ausencias, llevaron al descontento al pueblo. Cuando Namor fue a Nueva York, a tramitar la entrada de Atlantis en las Naciones Unidas, a su vuelta se encontró con que había sido depuesto, y en su lugar había sido impuesto un triunvirato. Para no provocar una guerra civil que diezmara a su pueblo, Namor aceptó la decisión, y se auto-exilió para evitar conflictos. Namor conoció por esa época, a la que sería años más tarde su esposa, la alienígena de Alpha Flight conocida como Marrina. Cuando Marrina fue secuestrada por el Amo, Namor acudió junto a Alpha Flight, y a la Chica Invisible, a rescatarla. Sin embargo, las acciones del Amo habían provocado la reacción del cuerpo alienígena de Marrina, que prefirió fingirse muerta antes de que Namor viera su verdadero aspecto. Tras esto, Namor vagó por los océanos, sin una morada fija, excepto sus breves estancias en la Hidrobase propiedad de Mantarraya.

En una de estas estancias, coincidió con los Vengadores. Tras conocer su historia, y con la recomendación del Capitán América, ex-compañero de Namor en los Invasores, Namor se unió al grupo. A pesar de la división pública ante la presencia de Namor en los Vengadores, la querella criminal de unos abogados que le denunciaban por sus pasados ataques contra la humanidad, y las constantes trifulcas con otro miembro del grupo, Hércules, Namor demostró ser una pieza fundamental en los Vengadores, luchando contra enemigos como el Todopoderoso, Kang, Piedra Lunar o Inmortus. Entonces apareció en escena Byrrah, el primo de Namor y antiguo rival suyo en el trono de Atlantis. Byrrah le dijo a Namor que Attuma había invadido Atlantis, y que había secuestrado a Marrina. Namor acudió a Atlantis a rescatar a su amada, primero solo, y tras ser obligado a huir, regresó junto a los Vengadores, al tiempo que los ex-compañeros de Marrina, Alpha Flight, acudían también a rescatarla. Entre ambos grupos, lograron derrotar a Attuma y rescatar a Marrina. Tras derrotar también al Plodex, consorte alienígena de Marrina, Namor y Marrina contrajeron matrimonio, y fundaron, junto a los muchos atlantes descontentos con el mando de Attuma, el reino de Deluvia. Por ello Namor abandonó los Vengadores y no pudo ayudarles durante el ataque de los Señores del Mal a la Mansión de los Vengadores, que casi provoca la muerte de Hércules y de Jarvis.

Namor se esforzó junto a Marrina, en forjar el imperio de Deluvia. Sin embargo, la alegría de Namor duró poco, ya que fue secuestrado por Neptuno, dios del Mar, por orden de Zeus, que acusaba a los Vengadores de haber causado a Hércules las graves heridas provocadas por los Señores del Mal. Namor fue llevado al Hades, e iba a ser encerrado junto al resto de los Vengadores, pero pudo escapar gracias a la ayuda de Prometeo, hecho esto rescató a sus compañeros Vengadores, y se enfrentaron a Zeus, consiguiendo finalmente que este viera la verdad de lo sucedido. Namor regresó junto a los Vengadores a la Tierra, solo para ver que el reino de Deluvia se había disuelto en su ausencia. Sin otro lugar a donde ir, Namor volvió a los Vengadores, y se instaló en la Hidrobase de los Vengadores junto a Marrina.

Namor ayudó a los Vengadores, contra enemigos como el Superadaptoide, el Androide del Pensador Loco, o la amenaza del llamado Heavy Metal. Sin embargo, aún estaba por llegar la peor de las desgracias para Namor: Marrina sucumbió finalmente a su herencia genética. Su esposa adoptó la forma del monstruo marino llamado Leviatán, que amenazaba con destruir a la humanidad. Namor se vio obligado a matar a su esposa para acabar con su amenaza. Tras su muerte, Namor vio como esta protegía unos huevos, de los que surgieron tres crías, que huyeron nadando, eran los hijos de Namor, que abandonó los Vengadores para buscarlos. Namor vagó por el Océano en busca de sus hijos perdidos, y solo volvió a los Vengadores en ocasiones esporádicas, como para luchar contra los Hombres Lava, o para avisar del inminente ataque de Loki durante los llamados Actos de Venganza. Desgraciadamente esto último no pudo lograrlo, ya que fue atacado por el Controlador, que lo envió contra el Capitán América.

En esta época Namor vio como se iniciaba lo que se denominó el resurgimiento de Atlantis, que llevó a su antiguo reino a la superficie. Si bien Namor abandonó los Vengadores, no hizo lo propio con los 4 Fantásticos, grupo al que pertenecía su amor de años atrás, Susan Storm. Namor, aprovechó la aparente muerte de Reed Richards a manos del Doctor Muerte, para iniciar un acercamiento a Susan. Por ello acompañó en diversas ocasiones a los restantes 4 Fantásticos; en algunas de sus aventuras, como contra Aron, el Vigilante Renegado, contra Devos y Padok, o durante la guerra entre Celestiales y Vigilantes. Susan poco a poco iba haciéndose la idea de la muerte de su marido. Sin embargo, el regreso de Reed Richards puso fin a todas las esperanzas de Namor, que finalmente abandonó los 4 Fantásticos.

Recientemente, Namor se unió a sus antiguos compañeros, para hacer frente a la amenaza de Onslaught, durante la cual aparentemente “murió” junto al resto de los héroes. Cuando Franklin Richards propició el regreso de los héroes “fallecidos”, Namor se encontraba junto a ellos. Namor acudió entonces a la reunión de Vengadores que derivó en la lucha contra Morgana LeFay y la transformación de los Vengadores en versiones medievales de si mismos, de la que consiguieron finalmente liberarse. Asimismo, poco después de su regreso a la Tierra vendió su empresa Oracle Inc., provocando la disolución del grupo conocido como los Héroes de Alquiler, liderado por su viejo amigo, Jim Hammond, la primera Antorcha Humana y por Puño de Hierro. También ayudó a su amigo Rayo Negro a ejecutar su plan suicida para huir de los humanos que atacaban Attilan y se unió a la nueva formación de los Defensores, junto al Doctor Extraño, Hulk, Gata Infernal, Valquiria y Halcón Nocturno.

Cuando el mar fue contaminado por la nega-energía expulsada por la Corporación Gideón, Namor enloqueció debido a sus efectos y atacó la ciudad de Nueva York. Fue frenado por la Antorcha Humana y Hulka, y vencido finalmente por el Hombre Hormiga. Una vez curado, participó de forma indirecta en el ataque a la Corporación Gideón realizado por un grupo de nuevos 4 Fantásticos, la Antorcha Humana, Hulka, Namorita y el Hombre Hormiga. Tras eso ayudó a los Vengadores de forma ocasional.

Nivel de fuerza:

Namor posee una fuerza sobrehumana que le permite levantar unas 80 toneladas, aunque esta fuerza aumenta considerablemente cuando se encuentra en el agua, en la que es capaz de derrotar a cualquier enemigo, como ha hecho ya con Thor o la Masa.

Poderes conocidos:

Namor posee los atributos del Homo Mermanus, es decir, fuerza sobrehumana, fisiología capaz de compensar los cambios de presión de las diferentes presiones de las profundidades marinas, circulación sanguínea capaz de soportar temperaturas bajísimas, una gran longevidad (el atlante medio vive unos 122 años) y una visión superior a la humana que le permite ver en las profundidades del océano. Aunque no tiene agallas como las que tienen la mayoría de los Atlantes, los pulmones de Namor contienen membranas que le permiten extraer oxígeno del agua. La fisiología de Namor le permite soportar presiones superiores a las 75 toneladas bajo el agua, o en tierra siempre que esté mojado, aunque al cabo de una hora esta resistencia se reduce a poco menos de la mitad, Namor puede nadar a una velocidad superior a los 100 kilómetros por hora durante varias horas antes de fatigarse.
Al ser un híbrido de homo-sapiens y de homo mermanus, es anfibio, y puede vivir indefinidamente bajo el agua o sobre ella, aunque si permanece completamente alejado del agua durante aproximadamente una semana, puede deshidratarse y morir. Al igual que su prima Namorita, Namor tiene un color rosado, en vez de azul como todos los atlantes, también como Namorita, Namor nació con una mutación en forma de apéndices alados que surgen por encima de los tobillos, gracias a estas alas, Namor puede volar, alcanzando velocidades de hasta 70 km/h, y pudiendo alzar hasta dos toneladas de peso, aunque esto disminuye su velocidad.
